Hi, I'm Marieka!
A bit about me
I started sewing clothing for my dolls at just three years old. Ever since, I've been hooked on design and problem solving using fabrics and fashion. In my early days I worked in a large clothing factory where I learned about pattern making and tailoring. I am an avid sewer and specialise in alterations and tricky repairs - including darning, patching, and mending knitwear. I also design and make customised clothing for many wonderful clients in my home town of Johnsonville.
Clothing that actually fits
Sewing has been a life-long passion of mine. Being quite tall, I found it hard to find clothing that fit just right. Sewing meant I could make myself pants that were actually long enough for my 'lanky legs', and designing patterns and outfits meant I could match dresses to shoes and handbags, and once, I even designed a dress to match a lampshade that I'd made! Inspiration is all around us, and I love the creativity that goes hand-in-hand with fashion design.
Quality sewing techniques
Many of my 'vertically challenged' customers visit me regularly to hem their new but too-long jeans, and customers of all shapes find that the alterations I can make to their clothing can help to make their garments fit them beautifully. I believe in proper sewing techniques, a high quality finish and most importantly, happy customers.
I also love to help people and solve problems. This is where our specialist alterations and repairs services come in. So many items come to us on their last legs, and so many customers simply can't believe what I can do to transform them into something special. Great jacket with torn lining? Let's re-line it with something fresh. Jeans too baggy for today's wardrobe? No problem, let's convert them to skinny jeans. Holes in your favourite top? Let's look at how we can mend that - or perhaps put in some lace or other material. The possibilities are endless.
The story of old ted
Once a father brought in his daughter's favourite soft toy. Very much loved and worse for wear, old ted got a brand new waistcoat and a few 'stitches' to mend him back to health. I can't even explain how rewarding it was to see the daughter's face light up at the sight of new 'old ted', and how heartwarming it was for her father, who clearly cared so much. I truly love the work that I do - its my amazing customers that keep me doing my best and going that extra mile.
